Brutalities inflicted by the police on suspects in custody reached a shocking new low in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district. According to reports, a thirty-something murder suspect died after the UP police injected petrol and acid into his body. The deceased’s family alleged that the police had also beaten him up and made him sit on a hot plate to force a confession out of him.
The suspect, Balbir, who was admitted to King George Medical College here after his condition deteriorated, died on Thursday, according to officials. Four policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, have been suspended in this connection. An inquiry has been ordered, sources said. Balbir and a few others were arrested by the Avagrah police in Etah district in connection to a murder. His family alleged that he was denied food and then tortured, following which he fell unconscious.
